This offering is for a VERY, VERY RARE, (possibly one of a kind in existence) Document signed by JAMES L. POLK, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.This very, very rare item is a printed and manuscript document stating:  "The United States of America, To all to Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greetings. Whereas, William D. Miller of Randolph County, Illinois, has deposited in the General Land Office of the United States, A Certificate of the Register Of T...he Land Office, at..."  The document goes on to describe the Public Land in question located in the State of Illinois by calls.  The several 100 acre tract was paid for by William D. Miller and documented by this paper.  The document was signed in Washington, DC on the First of January, 1849 by PRESIDENT JAMES K. POLK, the Assistant Secretary and the Recorder of the General Land Office. Certificate #11, 625.   James Knox Polk (2 November 1795 - 15 June 1849) was the 11th President of the U.S. (1845-1849).  Polk was born in Mecklenburg County, NC.  He later lived in and represented the State of Tennessee.  A Democrat, Polk served as Speaker of the House (1835-1839) and Governor of Tennessee (1839-1841).  Polk was the surprise ("dark horse") candidate for president in 1844, defeating Henry Clay of the rival Whig Party by promising to annex Texas.  Polk was a leader of Jacksonian Democracy during the Second Party System.He promised to serve only one term and did not run for reelection.  He died of cholera three months after his term ended.  He was buried on the grounds of Polk Place in Nashville, Tennessee on 15 June 1849.Overall dimensions:  15.5 inches wide and 10 inches tall.  Paper is early high quality rag bond.  Document Overall Condition:  VERY GOOD, showing some foxing (especially along the left side of page), light ink fading and light fraying along the to edge of document. POSTAGE NOTE:IF THE WINNING BID IS BELOW $24.99 WINNER PAYS THE POSTAGE FOR FIRST CLASS MAIL WITH TRACKING NUMBER.WINNING BID OVER $25.00 THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR POSTAGE.  I WILL PAY FOR FIRST CLASS POSTAGE WITH TRACKING NUMBER.
