This is a very nice 33.3 RPM 180gstereo copy of Sonny Clark’s recording “Cool Struttin’” as issued by MusicMatters (catalogue number MMBST-81588) featuring Art Farmer, trumpet; JackieMcLean, alto saxaphone; Sonny Clark, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; and “Philly”Joe Jones, drums. All aspects of these Music Matters recordings are really firstrate. These are some of the finest quality reissues that I have experienced. This copy was pressed in the USA. The originalrecording... was released in 1958. There is a 3/4” hairline scratch atthe beginning of side 1 which does not sound, and a few light hairline scrachesin the center leadout to the label on both sides. There are no other scuffs orscratches but does have numerous streaks in the vinyl. The record plays very quietly with only a fewlight ticks over both sides. The heavy gatefold jacket is in near mint condition with no seam splits, bends, or tears. Theinside cover contains B&W photos of the performers taken by FrancisWolff. I bought this copy new when it was released asa subscription from Elusive Disc. The record was been cleaned with AudioIntelligent fluids on a VPI cleaner followed by a second cleaning with an AudioDesk Ultra sonic cleaner. More recentlythe records were recleaned with the latest version of the Audio Desk ultrasonic record cleaner. It has also beendemagnetized with a Furutech DeMag. I have only played the record a few timessince I originally purchased it. The record was recently play gradedusing a Lyra Parnassus cartridge on a VPI Classic 4 turntable. The record playsquietly with only a few light ticks over both sides as noted above. The recording is from my personalcollection which I am in the process of reducing. Look for additionallistings to come as I get time to re-listen and grade them. Therecords will be carefully packed in bubble wrap with the records removed from thejacket to prevent seam splits.
