Art Nouveau style cast iron fireback c. 1920. A cast iron fireback takes heat otherwise lost and radiates this heat into the room. A fireback thus works like a radiator and may increase the efficiency of the fire by as much as 50%. The thicker/heavier the fireplace back, the longer and softer this radiative effect will be. The fireback is 24" wide, 29" high and weighs 32 pounds because it is cast iron. It originally was blackish-grey and someone painted i...t gold. It does have brackets for mounting the frame. The last one I sold was an English pub scene. I shipped it to California which cost $92 via UPS. This is as nice as any I've seen in specialty stores and about half the price. I love the Art Nouveau styling.
