1940 Hollywood Pirates Den Feature Matchbook Skull Bones Bar Bob Hope Halloween

This is an extremely rare original 1940 feature matchbook from the short-lived celebrity owned bar in Hollywood, California, The Pirates Den. It was co-owned by Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Fred MacMurray, Jimmy Fiddler, Johnny Weissmuller, Ken Murray, Rudy Vallee, Tony Martin, and Vic Erwin. The row...dy bar was located at 335 N. La Brea Avenue, and featured dining and dancing and general revelry centered around the famed Skull & Bones Bar.
This particular matchbook is largely intact, and includes all 15 of the original unstruck matches with the printed image of the menacing looking skeleton holding a cocktail and cigarette in holder in each of its bony hands. The matchbook shows some minor edge wear and tiny bits of scuffing and light soiling to extremities, and slight discoloration along striker border, with a bit of rub off residual red from the contact between the match heads and the background of the interior printed text, very minor at that. The colors are otherwise very fine and text sharp, and the image is a great one especially with Halloween coming up right now.
This is one of a series of matchbooks from vintage establishments around Southern California that I'll be listing over the coming weeks, (see scans), and most are in generally very fine shape overall as they were stored for decades in an artist's "morgue file" for research purposes only.
