THE RANSOME GALLERY, LIMITED EDITION OF 750
HALLMARKED STERLING SILVER GILT & EMERALD
EXACT REPLICA OF A 10TH CENTURY ANGLO SAXON PORTABLE SUNDIAL, ORIGINAL FOUND IN CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL CLOISTERS IN 1938.
OLDEST POCKET TIMEPIECE KNOWN TO EXIST.
ENGRAVED WITH MONTHS OF THE YEAR IN LATIN ON THE FRONT AND BACK, WITH REAL EMERALD MARKERS, THE SIDES ARE ENGRAVED WITH THE LATIN INSCRIPTION, PEACE TO THE POSSESSOR & HEALTH TO HE WHO TOILS. THE PIN IS DESIGNED TO COME OF T...HE CHAIN AND PLACED IN THE APPROPRIATE MONTH HOLE AND THE SUN CASTS A SHADOW TO GIVE A RUFF IDEA OF THE TIME. WOULD HAVE BEEN WORN SUSPENDED FROM A CHAIN.
MADE BY THE RANSOME GALLERY OF LONDON IN 1975.
