You are bidding on a rarely offered pottery vessel of the Quimbaya culture. The Quimbaya were known even to the conquesters of Spain as ogres, and it is also known that they beheaded their enemies and impaled on the central sacred place of their cities on piles. The pottery has a shape of a bowl of figurative human forms. The spout and second molded ring at the spout form a spire where a face looks out. Furthermore, there are two arms and a collar, which looks more like a sling. On one... side, the long open knot is clearly visible. It is quite possible that this may be a simple form of stylized prisoner. The Quimbaya are also better known for their fine gold artifacts. The plump jar really has its own antique charm, has character and offers the opportunity to acquire a piece of a not so often offered culture. I have often had the most beautiful ceramics in my hands, but these pieces always attract me. The condition, please look at the pictures, is due to age, a hole was closed, there are dirt and abrasions, almost as if buried and found.I am very glad that I can offer such other ceramics, because most of the interested people want ceramics from Peru or Mexico, I find almost a bit boring, because these rare ceramics have a unique spirit in them!
