Vintage 1956 A.C. Gilbert Original Erector Set 6 1/2 All Electric 98+% COMPLETE
Time to downsize, so we are cleaning out the attic and the storage areas.... This is my PERSONAL 1956 A. C. Gilbert #6-1/2 ALL electric Erector Set. It was my Christmas gift. I built EVERY single thing that was in the Instruction Manual....plus a lot more. I actually used the motor and the parts to make an Electromagnetic (Junk Yard) crane for a Freshman Science Project to demonst...rate how you could take a bolt and wire and a power supply (my Lionel Train Transformer) and make a powerful magnet and used the Erector Set motor and hardware and built the crane. YES....I had fun...
My DW has inventoried and done extensive research. My set was passed down to my younger BIL and combined with their 1962 set. BUT, she inventoried every piece and used the my original instruction manual and has the inventory (below). I will NOT certify that it is 100%, as I have NO idea how many bolts and nuts there were. BUT, we found ALL the individual girders, connectors, links, etc. Ended up with a FEW extra parts such as an axle or so or maybe some "brackets".
Here is the inventory....YES....she did a great job and was thorough... From her research, which was detailed, and from my memory as to what year I got it and my grade level, this IS a HISTORICALLY CORRECT 1956 Set. It has the ORIGINAL Metal Box... as that was the ONLY year that the Metal Box was the EXACT size....with the graphics. A LOT of sets are on Ebay and they are "estate" purchases and the information....despite the perceived knowledge of the sellers, is a bit "off" or misinterpreted. Obviously not deceptive....just incorrect. Rest assured....this authentic for the year and the contents. Not too much more to say. It will be carefully packed (my wife is as thorough on packaging as she was on the research). It will be shipped USPS Priority mail, with Tracking and INSURED. YES, we are charging for that....but if you want "Economy Shipping" or low cost, you do not get insurance. My wife figured out how to break it down into TWO shipments so that you save....otherwise, it would be a LOT more as we will use a Flat Rate for the heavy stuff.
Not too much more to say....you are looking at my heritage....as I DID graduate from a fine Engineering University and had a wonderful career....and some of the principles that I learned as child from building "stuff" gave me more insight later on. I have designed equipment and sometimes help build it and often been the project manager for the installation team....as well as building two complete factories from bare land to employing 1000 people....
