You are looking at a small bookplate with the original autograph of the following legendary late great WWII Bomber Command Victoria Cross pilot:
Flight Lieutenant William 'Bill' Reid Victoria Cross :
Volunteered for RAF aircrew during 1940, he did his flight training in California, flying Stearman, Vultee and Harvards. After gaining his pilots wings he was posted back to the UK where he first flew Wellingtons before moving on to Lancasters in 1943 with 61 then 617 'Da...mbuster' squadron. On the night of November 3rd 1943, his Lancaster suffered two severe attacks from Luftwaffe night fighters, Bill Reid was badly wounded and his his navigator and radio operator were killed, and the Lancaster was badly damaged. Bill Reid even with his injuries flew on a further 200 miles to accurately bomb the target and then get his aircraft home. For this act of outstanding courage and determination he was awarded the Victoria Cross.
He passed away in November 2001.
