Operation Deep Freeze 1963 Cruise book with the “Puckered Penguins” mascot on cover. Cover has sun damage with a couple of small cracks on the binding, it showing its age (56 years). The inside is in good- great condition, with the exception of the roster where somebody checked off some of the officers they knew or something.
Also included is the corroborating Original Official United States Navy report of Operation Deep Freeze 1963. This report covers the operation of the Air ...Development Squadron Six during the operation deep-freeze from 1 August 1962 to 11 of April 1963. This 106 page report covers daily operation for that time including flights and tonnage flown, Air equipment on site, the mapping of the continent, para rescue team, communication, navigation, photography, Maintenance supply public information and public relations, morale recreation, medical, dental, personnel and administration. Included are 8 USN photos of the charts consisting of; UH – 1B Flight to the south pole chart, TOPO West - TOPO East chart, TOPO west detailed chart, TOPO East detail chart, DF63 Trimetrogon Aerial mapping commitments chart, DF63 Trimetrogon Aerial mapping completed chart, DF63 Special mapping photography comments, DF 63 special mapping photography completed.This 56 year old report is in good to fair condition. And the 1964 operation deep freeze cruise book. This book is in good condition with the exception of the check marks on the rosters as with the ‘63 book. Mostly black and white pictures does have a few color pictures. Also has a “in Memoriam” page for JFK sent with this quote;“ The tragic news of our commander-in-chief’s untimely death was felt with great impact by everyone in Antarctica. The late President always had a special place in his heart for the men who achieved so much in the conquering of the white continent. His personally signed portrait address to the men of the McMurdo sound is reproduced here. We have lost a great shipmate“.
