Up for sale is an original cap made for the U.S.S Hornet recovery of Apollo 11. Included in the sale is an original envelope and invitation to the recovery dinner that took place August 13, 1969 in L.A.The cap is in beautiful condition and would appear to be in near dead stock, unworn condition. The wool and stitching is in great shape. Liner has held up very well over time with small cracks in the corners. The original Harvard headwear stamp and size tag are still intact. Tag shows th...e hat is 7 1/8”. Please view my detailed photos. This cap was given to Cal Beauregard who was in charge of the Ford Motor Companies Public Relations Garage in NYC during the Apollo missions. He developed close relationships to astronauts and others associated with NASA. I have attached a photo of a crew member on the USS Hornet wearing the same cap in preparation for the recovery.
