When I pulled this 3-LP Box Set off the shelf a couple of days ago, I found a note to myself that I had written some 40 years ago. The note said that I had removed the shrink wrap and the records were mint (never played). I also have two other copies of this box and I absolutely guarantee that this box, booklet and all three records are stone cold dead mint. If there was one thing that the great Jazz critics from the 40's, 50's & 60's, agreed upon, It was that the&nb...sp;Brunswick, Okeh, Vocalion and Columbia sides released from 1935-1941 by Teddy Wilson & His Orchestra w/ Billie Holiday (v) and Billie Holliday and Her Orchestra were ranked among the greatest and most influential Jazz Recordings ever produced. Not only was Lady in her prime with a sweetness in her voice that could melt hearts, but the calibre of the Jazz musicians on these tracks represents the finest of the genre. Lady does not dominate these tracks, she's just one of the boys in the band and generally takes two choruses leaving plenty of room for the other cats to display there chops. Many of the greatest jazz solo breaks ever waxed are included on these three discs.One testament to these recordings is that they have never gone out of print. They were reissued in the 1940's on 78 singles and in deluxe four or five record 78 album sets. In the late 40's and early 50's on 10" LP's and on 12" Lp's in the mid to late 50's. After Lady's passing in 1959, Columbia maliciously re-mastered these recordings, presumably from the original metal mothers for this deluxe box set first released in 1962. The quality of the 6-eye and 2-eye pressings are second to none and far better than any of the later reissues from the 70's or 80's. Any questions?
