OLD 1961 PURE OIL FIREBIRD GAS PUMP SIGN
Item History & Price
In 1960, it was ranked as one the top 100 indust...rial companies. They had refineries in several states and Europe. The motto of the company was, "Be Sure with Pure".
In 1965, Union Oil purchased the company. Within a few years the Pure name was phased out and the stations became Union 76. The Pure Oil name returned in 1993 with headquarters in South Carolina.
The emblem on the face of this sign signifies the "Firebird" gasoline developed by Pure in 1961. The sign measures 12" x 14". The face is plastic, but the frame and back are metal. The lettering and the firebird are embossed to enhance the look.
The sign is in good looking shape. The colors are bright and vivid. It shows signs of little use, as shown in my several pictures. There is a small crack in the upper right corner of the metal frame, and a hairline crack under the "U" in Regular. There is also a blemish on the metal frame on the right. There is some tarnish, patina, on the metal backside. All are shown in my several pictures.
