I hadn't seen a nice round of this unusual and spectacularly pretty petrified wood in years until I came across a small root ball section last summer! It took me a long time to get around to getting it ready for your collection but after a lot of agonizing I've decided to sell it since I truly cannot keep them all. It's one of the most intricately detailed fossil palms I've worked from Texas and it shows both the outer root ma...ntle and the vascular pores very clearly. The visible fracture line is fully stabilized and the entire stone polished quite nicely, though the center is a bit more porous and less silicified than the outer portions of the trunk. It even has some of the shoots from the root ball around the perimeter! It's a nice, extra-large specimen from a location we don't often have the opportunity to work with. Good luck!!This unusual spotted petrified wood is from a nearly perfect and beautifully colored petrified palm trunk from Texas. This is a nice large palm with gorgeous, high contrast, wonderful vessel detail in nice, neutral color tones. It represents an affordable way to make a key addition to your own petrified wood or stone collection (or to simply start one) with a typically expensive variety. Palm wood is easy to identify by the vessels that run lengthwise through the stem (pretty consistent from rind to center). The brown, tan and white coloration is classic for the Southern US. We don't get many palm rounds but acquired some nice pieces last fall that have yielded some real show pieces like this one. This should make a wonderful addition to any collection! This wood is quite unique - it's not really comparable to any other petrified wood and it's difficult to get a representative photograph that really does the color and growth detail justice. The wood has a very high silica content, particularly in the darker spotted regions so we're able to coax a really nice polish out of the specimen. This is one of the few complete rounds I've been able to offer in this size range. If the timeless mystery of this piece isn't enough for you, then I'm certain the simple, natural, gemmy beauty of it will be. The colors are high contrast and the wood grain is unique to this exotic species. This round is cut from the center of a very solid log. It's really a nice piece, but what else would you expect from a business named "Sticks-in-Stones"?! We've applied all of our considerable lapidary skills to bring out a mirror finish and produce a specimen worthy of display in your own collection. This nice large piece measures about 14" x 10" across the polished face and is cut about 1/2" thick. Weight is 3.58 lbs. Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary is happily providing UPS shipping to greatly reduce shipping charges on large rock orders. We will combine all of your purchases from our shop to bring you the greatest possible value in fine Lapidary & stone collectibles!
