This gorgeous petrified wood round is both colorful and perfectly detailed - they don't get much prettier and they rarely get anywhere near this big! It's a larger than average sized round for this deposit with a ton of colorful blue fortification agate and breathtaking rays in the wood grain grain. This log had a very large desiccation split that filled with a huge wedge of gold calcite crystal. Look closely and you'll see t...hat many of those blue agate infusions are actually insect borings that filled with agate, petrified frass, or both! I even found a perfectly preserved ostracod (seed shrimp) fossil within this fossil! It's truly a rare and perfect cut! Of course all of this beauty would be lost if not polished properly - but with our mirror polish every bit of color and fossil detail is revealed in it's full glory! The interior reveals a particularly nice fossil gemstone with lots of gorgeous agate and truly magnificent wood preservation! Here's an absolutely museum grade Blue Forest petrified round cut from the center of a perfectly formed log that's got it all. There's a lot of brilliantly colored blue agate framing the perfectly preserved log frozen inside. It's got really nice wood preservation throughout with a very well defined heart in the center of the log and the most stunning wood grain you'll ever see in one of these pieces! It's accented with more than its share of blue agate too! I'm amazed at the detail in the blue fortification agate that filled the voids around this log - the agate alone would make this a collector piece - coupled with the absolutely flawless petrified wood round inside it becomes a real collection centerpiece! The color is complemented by a small pocket full of gold calcite. The Blue Forest is a uniquely preserved bed of small branches and occasional logs in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The dark, blue/black, coffee and chocolate colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of blue agate that filled the cracks and coated the log! This is a perfectly flat slice from the center of a larger than average sized log from a pepperwood tree. It's been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail from this 50 million year old treasure captured inside. It took a pretty awesome polish - something we strive to produce on every specimen we put our name on! The fibrous cell structure of the radial wood grain is exceptional and easily studied with a hand lens. This is a nice, eye catching specimen, and it is close to perfect - something that will show proudly in any collection. Much larger than most Blue Forest rounds, this one measures about 6" x 5" across the polished face and is sliced roughly 0.39" thick. Weight is 0.78 lbs. Stands shown sold separately.
