This is an arts and crafts or art Nouveau style box, I think it was once used to hold cigars or tobacco but would make a lovely box for bits and bobs. The outside looks like copper, I'm not sure if it actually is or if it is something else made to look like copper.
There are some dents, most notably the handle on the lid has pressed into the top of the lid. Please see pictures.
