Up for auction is a tin friction Hino sightseeing bus made by Marusan/Hayashi of Japan. The delivery van measures 9 1/2 inches or 24 centimeters long. The vehicle is complete and all original and it is in excellent condition. This is a wonderful tin bus, very intricately designed and put together. The bus is in excellent condition with a very unusual color palette of a smokey purple and a lemony yellow. The surface of the tin has a really nice gloss and the graphics are very clear and ...sharp. The chrome trim is bright and shiny and in excellent condition. The two windows in the middle on each side of the van contain rotating scenes, tourist like scenes. Each of the four scenes occupies one side of a rectangular block which very slowly rotates with the movement of the friction motor. There are eight scenes all together, the left side containing scenes of race cars, beach scenes, a Santa Fe train, and jet airplanes. The opposite side features the South Pole with penguins, a covered wagon, cows in a pasture, and the Statue of Liberty. The friction motor works very well and the rotating scenes work... sometimes. It takes a long time for the rotating blocks to complete a turn; I'm not sure if this is how it is supposed to work or not. It is hard to see how it could work any other way. This is a delightful tin friction van in excellent condition; it is pictured on page 25 of the great Big Book of Tin Toy Cars Commercial and Racing Vehicles, where the rarity rating is 9 on a scale of one to 10.
