EXTREMELY RARE, Large 13" Diameter Antique Colonial New England Pewter Serving Bowl, c1770 - 1780, w/Engraved Monogram !!DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....particularly early and particularly large and PARTICULARLY RARE antique colonial pewter serving bowl, 13"diameter. Very deep area for food, about 3" deep, surrounded by wide, slanted rim. I have seen trencher platters, but THIS IS THE FIRST PERIOD PEWTER SERVING BOWL I HAVE EVER SEEN. USED DURING COLONIAL DAYS for serving, prob...ably owned by someone with some money. Not everyone would have had such a nice large piece. This is rare on a variety of levels. IT HAS THE ENGRAVED MONOGRAMMED INITIALS OF THE OWNER in a very unique, fancy pattern. Very large letters, "SI". All hand engraved. These things were hardly ever monogrammed!! VERY SCARCE AND ALWAYS DESIRABLE. Can be used as a functional itemor as a very nice antique or colonial period decorative item with a collection or on a mantle or on the wall. This is a very earlycolonial piece and I would estimate no later than 1770 - 1780. Could be earlier given its appearance. It is in very good conditionoverall with nice aged patina. Has 2 small splits on the edge/rim (Pewter is not a strong metal, even when made thick and heavy). One of them has a very early repair to it. Also evidence of a repair in the bottom. A nice round period repair done by a "tinker". THESE EARLY PERIOD REPAIRS REALLY ADD A LOT OF CHARM AND STORIES BEHIND THIS PIECE. When something broke they fixed it.....they didn't/couldn't just replace it.This bowl is nice and shows its age and use nicely. It has a nice antique appearance, and a super scarce piece!!Came out of alocal New England collection. PLEASE SEE ATTACHEDPHOTOS!!!Please see my auction list for other interesting items!! SHIPPING TERMS:Buyer pays $18.50 postage in the US. It is very large and heavy!!
