EXC ORIG CORRECT 1941 - 43 SA US M1 GARAND NARROW BASE GAS CYLINDER WITH SIGHT

Original Description:
This is an original U.S. Army / U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) M1 Garand gas cylinder or tube, made by Springfield Armory (SA). Excellent condition, with a nice original dark parkerized finish, complete with front sight, early front sight screw, and stacking swivel. Has the horizontal (straight) .035" wide saw cut to sight base, as called for in Field Service Modification Work Orders from October, 1943 to March, 1944, to assist in tightening the front sight. Has small punch mark on bottom of... bayonet lug. The sight base is the narrow type, it measures about 0.5045" inches wide. Cylinder has flat top to rear barrel ring, top is stamped with "2."   The front sight is an early WWII SA type, measures  about 0.595 inches across blades. Nice original dark parkerized finish, has some wear to finish and a few slight nicks and dings, but in very good shape with no problems. The sight screw is also the early WWII type, with a recess for the sight seal. Both sight and screw are in very good original condition.******** This cylinder and sight are in overall very good to excellent condition, no rust, everything present is as it should be and functional. About 95% or so of original parkerization remains, finish is thinning a bit and there area a few wear marks on bottom of cylinder, but still in nice shape. ********** This type of gas cylinder, having a narrow base without a stamped drawing number, was used on SA Garands from about serial numbers 350, 000 to 1, 800, 000 (October of 1941 to July 1943).
