You’re bidding on an Original Antique 19th Century Georges Dascher Watercolor Painting depicting a scene of the Franco-Prussian War. The scene shows a general and his troops entering a town and talking to a townsman while his men keep guard watching the surrounding area. A very cool piece of illustrative work by a somewhat unknown yet highly important European Illustrator.

...Biography of Georges Dascher (1851-1912)
Georges Dascher was born in Caen October 6, 1851 in a family of the Caen bourgeoisie. Without children, the work of Georges Dascher were scattered among several heirs. According to his family, what best characterized his artistic work is undoubtedly the precision of his drawing and his professional conscience. To draw many of his historical scenes, he used in particular the work of Auguste Racinet " The Historical Costume ", with many illustrations of the costume through time and space.
His work is quite important, but little known. Under the signature of G.DASCHER , he produced many illustrations and engravings for the national education while the school was only mandatory recently thanks to the reforms of Jules Ferry. He drew more than 30 series of engravings illustrating the covers of school notebooks distributed to students of secular schools, drawings for books and novels , especially to Gedalge editions specializing in school books, engravings for novels, illustrations for musical editions of songs and romances, posters , or postcards... He also left some paintings, including a gouache painted in 1880 representing the family property of Beuzeval, another gouache representing a Danish three-masted towed in rough sea, exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1880.
