Stunning Victorian 18ct Rolled Gold Long Guard Chain 54 Circa 1837 - 60

This is a lovely example of a Victorian Long Guard Chain with a Dog Clip at one end and loop at the other.
The chain is a very pretty but substantial cut blecher style link which reflects the light beautifully and really makes the gold shine.
The chain is formed of 18ct Rolled Gold with one of the loops near the clip marked "18ct Rolled Gold", it also has some initials but they are a bit worn and hard to make out.
The Chain is approx 54 inches long.
Long Guard chains we...re worn to carry practical objects such as keys, scissors, watch, eyeglass or fobs as this one has. They were usually between 40 and 60 inches long so they could be doubled or worn tucked in a pocket or waistband. This exceptionally long chain length makes it very versatile today as it can be doubled or trebled up or wrapped multiple times around the wrist for a stunning bracelet.

Total length is approx 54inches or 137cm
The chain is in very good condition with not obvious damage to it at all, the dog clip works perfectly, but it should be remembered that it is not brand new and as such will show signs of previous use as we would expect from a Antique item which is well over 100 years old.
It is such a pretty and unique item which would add to any collection or a unusual way to mark a special occasion such as a Birthday Anniversary or Wedding.
