Description: RARE STRAIGHT SIDE SS COCA COLA CROWN TOP BOTTLE, HUNTINGTON W. VA., AMBER, Applied Top, Height 7 3/4", Circa 1905-1908. COCA-COLA in SCRIPT high heel on the front of the bottle and D.O.C. 332 embossed on the heel. On the back side embossed mid-body THE L. A. WOLCOTT CO. TRADE MARK REGISTERED HUNTINGTON W. VA. The bottom is blank.
Rarity - listed as 4 - RARE in Tim McGuire's West Virginia Coca Cola bottle guide
Condition: This bottle has a few minor scratches... and surface wear and staining on the inside and outside of the bottle. Otherwise it's a nice clean example with only a tiny chip on the bottom of the bottle that cannot be seen when displayed. Please look at the photos carefully to see the nice condition of this bottle. It displays beautifully and could be a centerpiece example to add to your Hutch, Hutchinson, Straight Sided, Vintage and/or Rare Coca Cola Bottle, Coke collection. FAKE PURPLE Coca-Cola BottlesBecareful when buying Straight Sided and Hobble-skirt Coca-Cola bottles with a Deep Purple (Cobalt Blue) and/or a so called Black AMETHYST color. Dark purple is not anatural color for these bottles and is caused by irradiating olderbottles. The older Coke bottles had manganese that will turn the bottledark purple when irradiated. There are some naturally occurring bottleswith a light amethyst/purple or pink tint - leaving them out in prolongedsunlight (SCA) will darken the tint (but they will NEVER become a Dark (Blue) (Black) Amethyst). Also, sellers use the private bidder routine so knowledgeable collectors and sellers can't warn you that the so called rare bottle you are bidding on is worthless.
PLEASE REMEMBER, MANY SELLERS WILL SAY THEIR BOTTLES ARE "GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC"

REPRODUCTION COCA COLA LABELS on Coca-Cola BottlesAlso, beware of auctions that have Coca Cola labels applied to bottles. For example, recently on eBay you could find Coca Cola labels on bottles that don't have Coca Cola in script or block letters on the bottle. These types of bottles obviously never held Coca Cola and the label may be a reproduction. Also, keep in mind, very few Coca Cola bottles with the original label have survived over the years! Please ask the seller questions about the bottle and/or label to determine authenticity before you buy.
One seller on eBay takes a non-embossed soda bottle worth maybe a dollar or two, slaps a fake 1900's diamond Coca-Cola label on it and sells it for $100+. He does the same thing with with original straight sided cokes and sells them for almost 5X what they are actually worth. Recently he had an non-embossed hutch, applied one of his famous coke labels, and sold it for $500+ as an "EXTREMELY RARE COCA-COLA HUTCH WITH LABEL". BUYERS BEWARE!
