Please notice this is a tied quilt.
This is a narrow quilt probably made for a child's bed, judging from the space themed flannel used as backing.
That same fact, the printing on the flannel, seems to us to indicate this is a truly old quilt, because the space action depicted was what the common imagined "reality" of space travel and exploration that was popular in the 50's and 60's (please enlarge pic # 12 and judge by yourself).
The appliques were made with feed sacks,... some of them with novelty prints, including one with cowboys, horses, etc.
The piecing of the appliques and the sewing to the the white fabric was done by hand.
This quilt has a nice scalloped border all around.
It measures 87" by just 56' across, so it is rather narrow; the bed is a queen, 80" by 60".
