This is in excellent vintage condition and very unusual - a very striking thatched cottage shaped teacosy. It is hand embroidered with wool work tapestry embroidery, complete with chimney and side wall and lots of wonderful flowers outside. It is lined in a heavy cream cotton satin 'jean' material, so it is quite thick and heavy and as you can see, even has front and back doors and windows and side panels too.
It measures 12 inches along the bottom, by 9 inches tall, and the i...nset side panels measure 3 inches by 9 inches, so this is quite a large teacosy. As you can see, there is a chimney too.
There are some faint tea stains on the cream lining inside, as you would expect - somebody has loved and used this - but it is otherwise very good and very unusual indeed and there is some padding between lining and embroidery, so it will make an efficient teacosy.
It looks to me as though it could date anywhere between the 1940s and 60s, and it came in a lot of beautifully embroidered tea tablecloths from the same vintage. I'll be listing those later on, in good time for spring.
