Here is a nice vintage Hults Bruks 2.75-pound axe I've just finished restoring. I removed some mushrooming on the poll to give it a nicer shape with lovely brushed steel texture. Then I reground the edge to an acceptable geometry and made it shiny and razor sharp using whetstones, a lot of sanding and a high speed bufffer. I made the 25.5" handle from a 1.5" thick board of kiln-dried white ash using traditional tools for the final shaping, such as rasps, scrapers and spokeshaves.... I carefully selected the grain to be as continuous as possible, ensuring maximum sturdiness, and shaped the grip into a very comfortable oval measuring approximately 1" 1/4 by 3/4, which is a standard size for an axe of that weight. The finish is a special sauce that will protect it against moisture and also gives it a great vintage look. I hung it on the head using black walnut wedges I also make. It's exceptionally balanced and perfectly centered with the cutting edge for precise chopping action. You can order a robust hand-made leather sheath for this axe for an additional 45$ CAD. PLEASE SEND YOUR REQUEST BEFORE I SHIP THE AXE, otherwise it's very difficult for me to make it remotely and have a good fit. If you wish to have a sheath specially made for this axe, please purchase the axe first and include your paypal email address in the note section so I can send you an invoice.
