Come my love and do not spurnFrom a little flower do learnLet your temper be as sweetAs the lily at your feetBe as gentle, be as mildAs tha...t sweet and lovely childAnn Pugh's work 1831
The lower section of the linen is stitched with a central flower which has a bird perched on a red flower and floral motifs on either side. The whole piece is then surrounded by an undulating border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age and the colours of the wool are good with the blue of the verse having mellowed more than the other shades. There is some bleeding to the verse and some small areas of stitch loss in the alphabet area. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Ann first stitched it.Measures 12" x 15 1/4"
