The red fabric used is very similar to the antique Turkey red, famously used to make those classic red and white quilts from the 19th century and early 20th, but although the tone is similar, these are actually 2 different printed fabrics, probably feed sacks, with two different concentrations of tiny white spots (not really polka dot, it s...eems to us).
One of the red fabrics has a bigger density of white spots (please enlarge pic # 5) than the other fabric (please enlarge pic # 6). The hand stitching used for piecing can be seen on close-up # 8.
The quilting of the white squares was done in a pattern of feather circle with hanging diamonds quilting in the center.
This particular Broken Dishes pattern was published by the Needlecraft Magazine in February 1930.
