US Army troopers wounded in action overseas recovered in convalescent hospitals back in the States. Often situated in warm weather locations to augment the healing process, the men underwent intensive rehab to regain their physical and emotional wellbeing. GIs recuperating in these hospitals were issued specially designed "convalescent suits". Early in the war, these suits were crafted in the classic Medical Department maroon branch of service color, but by 1945, they were changed ...to the far more common blue version. This US Army WW2 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT MAROON CONVALESCENT COAT is in MINT condition, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or damage of any kind to the crisp maroon 100% cotton construction. Most interestingly, it's a Size Large, carries "USA / MD" for US Army Medical Department direct embroidered in white at the left chest, and is dated "Mar. 5, 1941" on the original "SIGMUND EISNER CO." contract tag at the inside neck. It boasts slash entry lower front "hand warmer" pockets, sports all of the original maroon finished plastic "tack" buttons down the front, and features a maroon plastic button closure "chin strap", short design, and wide waistband. A beautiful example of a very rare, original US Army WW2 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT MAROON CONVALESCENT COAT. Now celebrating our 20th year on eBay.
