Being offered is a nice and large stone headed war club from Papua New Guinea. This club measures 50 1/2” in total length and has a wooden shaft of a lovely reddish brown patina. Great shape to the handle handle as well. Slender long tapering to a point section at the very bottom. Club gradually thickens in circumference as you go up the shaft towards the stone head. The thickest point being above the round stone head. The stone head has slipped fr...om its original position and someone in recent times has added a string through it so it doesn’t come off. Lovely round stone club head with a greenish black color. I love the stone carved look to the shaft. When you look down the shaft you can see the unevenness you would expect from something being hand carved without the benefit of metal tools. Most probably 19th century and feels great in the hands.
