VERY LARGE RARE RED FLUORESCING FLUORITE CRYSTAL FROM MAPIMI MEXICO - CONVOY
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:15872060 |
I know of only one location with fluoritecrystals that fluoresce red: the Ojuela Mine in Mapimi, Durango, Mexico. These red fluorescing fluorite crystals became one of the hits of a recentTucson Mineral Show when it was discovered that one vendor had a small cache ofthem. He didn't part with them cheaply. The large crystal may be the largest that I've seen. it is attached to a matrix of limonite and there are several smaller crystals. It is a grape jelly color and like grape je...lly, one can hold the crystals to the light and see through parts. Interesting how the transparency fluctuates. The large crystal measures 1 1/4 x 1 x 3/4 inches. Longwave ultraviolet light [1-2] brings outthe red fluorescence in all of its glory. Short and midwave fluorescence was inconsequential so no pictures were posted.I illuminated the fluorite with a 365nm Convoy S2+ LED flashlight. The crystals fluoresce a rich red color. As with all fluorescence minerals, the morepowerful the lamp, the brighter the fluorescence. The total weight and measurements [including matrix] are 44 grams and approximately 2 x 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches. Shipping will be $4.50 in the U.S. using first class mail. This is myapproximate out of pocket cost for postage [post office had a recent increase], bubble mailing envelope, protective box or bubble bag and the approximately 15% that EBay and PayPal take from theshipping charged. Yup, they take a non-discounted fee from the shipping charge.
Iam happy to combine purchases to reduce shipping costs. Internationalpurchasers please contact me for shipping rates. Please check out all of my fluorescent mineral listingsat: ASD098LKJ, SOUTHERNSHRIKE and ROCKYC1945. EBay no longer permits sellers to combineshipping for purchases made from more than one seller ID. Sorry!!!
PLEASE READ1. Owing to recent changes at EBay, it is now necessary for me to ship purchases within one business day of receiving payment. I will often do it the same day if payment is made sufficiently early. Please, if you want to combine shipping with subsequent purchases, do not pay until I invoice you with the correct discounted combined shipping. Just let me know when you are ready for the invoice. If you pay, I have no choice but to ship.2. International shipping is not cheap and PayPal adds to the problem by charging a higher percentage for international transactions. EBay also charges a commission on the shipping paid for both international and domestic purchases. I charge you what it costs me - I do not profit from shipping. Once I mail or ship a package, the time in route is out of my control.3. The more powerful the ultraviolet lamp, the brighter the fluorescent response. Flashlights and ultraviolet lamps that purport to provide shortwave and longwave lighting plus a flashlight [and maybe even a can opener] and cost $39.99 will not adequately fluoresce most minerals. Neither will very low wattage shortwave lamps. The filter is the most expensive component of a lamp and for that price it will not be a quality filter - it will either permit too much visible light to pass through or not enough ultraviolet light. Either way you lose.4. Some items will only fluoresce under shortwave ultraviolet light. Others only under longwave. My listings will indicate which wavelengths permit fluorescence and which do not.5. If you are not happy with an item, please contact me BEFORE leaving feedback, requesting an EBay or PayPal refund or opening a buyer case. I will make it right.Thank You, john
