UP FOR SALE IS AN EXTREMELY RARE AND VERY SCARCE ORIGINAL ANTIQUE VINTAGE 1920s ERA SHELL CLAM GAS GASOLINE MOTOR OIL SERVICE STATION DOUBLE SIDED PORCELAIN ADVERTISING SIGN WHICH MEASURES 41" X 42"
STILL RETAINS BOTH OF THE ORIGINAL CHAIN LINK HANGING BRACKETS ON THE TOP EDGE OF THE SIGN BOLTED WITH SQUARE NUTS
SIGN IS MARKED ON THE BOTTOM EDGE ( PROPERTY OF SHELL PE...TROLEUM CORP 1929 )
SELLER NOTES CONDITION AS FOLLOWS:(***VERY ROUGH CONDITION SHOWING HEAVY SIGNS OF USAGE WHICH IS APPROPRIATE WITH THE AGING PROCESS SUCH AS A LOT OF WEAR, CHIPS , PATINA, RUST AND A COUPLE OF BULLET HOLES!!! THE SIGN IS MANGLED ON ONE SIDE AND THERE IS A LONG GOUGE WHICH RUNS 20" INCHES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SHELL UP TO THE LOWER PART OF THE LETTER "H". ALL OF THESE FLAWS ONLY ADD TO THE GREAT NATURAL VINTAGE PATINA AND CHARACTER IT TRULY HAS!!!***)
I WISH I COULD TELL YOU MORE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THIS PIECE BUT ALL I KNOW FOR SURE IS THE FACT THAT IT WAS FOUND IN A BARN RECENTLY HERE IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN. WHEN I FOUND IT, THE SIGN WAS COVERED WITH MANY LAYERS OF DUST AND DIRT SO ALL I HAVE DONE TO IT WAS CLEAN IT WITH SOAP AND WATER!!! THIS VERY RARE SHELL GAS STATION SIGN DESERVES TO BE APPRECIATED BY SOMEONE WHO WILL ACTUALLY PUT IT ON DISPLAY WITH THEIR ORIGINAL PETROLIANA ITEMS!!!
