I have collected agates in Scotlan...d for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The amazing stones are classic orange jaspers from the Campsie Fells in Stirlingshire, green and red speckled bloodstones from the Isle of Rum and rare gold and green moss agates from Burn Anne in Ayrshire. The central stones are facetted champagne citrines from the Cairngorm mountain range that have been fully tested and are genuine citrines. The tear drop stones are stunning amethysts from the Sutherland hills and these have also been fully tested to confirm they are genuine stones.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces of this period but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The length is 6.3 cm ( two and a half inches ) with the width 4.8 cm ( just under two inches ) and the pin and C type clasp are in good strong working condition and original. The brooch will come in the antique box as shown.
