Very rare and stunningly beautiful, ca1930 Native American Paiute Indian Bead Decorated, Hide Cradleboard / Papoose Carrier with hand woven, basketry frame. This outstanding, early 20th century Paiute Cradleboard measures approx. 33 1/4" tall and 13" across at its widest point.
This beautiful Paiute Cradleboard features a traditional, woven basketry frame made of stiff, strong reeds expertly hand woven and constructed to create a strong, rigid Cradleboard fra...me that would safely hold the baby or toddler. The original, Cradleboard cover is made of brain tanned hide and decorated with geometric pattern beadwork executed using colors of light blue, dark blue, chalk white, pea green and orange. The beading is all spot stitched and is very well preserved. There is a hinged, basketry sun shade / visor and a central, horizontal line of long, rawhide fringe. The original rawhide lacing is also present and well preserved.
The Paiute Basketry Cradleboard offered here is unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. It is NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original ca1930 Paiute Bead Decorated Hide Cradleboard crafted in the early 20th century. This very rare and wonderful, ca1930 Paiute Cradleboard is in very good to excellent condition. The construct and the weave of the basketry frame and visor are solid and strong and there is no obvious damage and no repairs of any kind. The Hide cover is also very well preserved – generally clean with some areas of age appropriate toning and without damage or repairs of any kind. The beadwork is very well preserved with no loss or damage. Overall the Cradleboard is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully. All elements of the Cradleboard are original and there has been no repairs or restorations - it is 100% original and very beautiful.
