Proud to offer for sale a rare type of Dayak Mandau (headhunters sword) Amulet. A very tactyle and charming object. It looks to be varnished but it is NOT! Pure of handling, age and this special tigermahogany wood. It is a carved hand which is holding a snake with a hole in the middle through which the cord for the mandau would have gone; the formerly protuding head of the snake is off. A similar example -though dull and basic- I found in the Dutch museum online collection datab...ase (NMVW-collectie. RV-375-1); last photo.
