Vintage "Duck Hunter" Spot Camo Pants, Size Small. The manufacturer tag is worn but appears to be Ranger - "We help you get lost in the woods." Its very difficult to exactly date these. In my opinion, I think these are likely 1960's-1980's latest but most likely 60's or 70's. They are in very good used condition with no holes, rips, missing or damaged components, and minimal fading though do show signs of use. All zippers, buttons, loops, and pockets are present and functional. Manufac...turer tag is almost illegible, care tag is still clearly visible. Pants feature Two front slash pockets, and two button rear pockets. They also appear to have provisions for suspenders. The spot Camo was the US's first mass produced camouflauge to be used in military uniform seen in P42, P44 uniforms. It was famously used by US Marines on helmet covers, uniforms, ponchos and other equipment in the Pacific campaigns of WW2, where it gained the nickname "Frogskin". After the war, many companies produced ther own versions of this camo for use by civillians and hunters It was produced by numerous companies in numerous items and in different colors and variations for several decades. In the early years of the Vietnam War, early military advisors and Special Forces, needing superior camouflauge to Olive Drab 107 in the jungle, wore store bought uniforms like these. Later however, newer military styled patterns like Mitchell Pattern, Tigerstripe and ERDL would became more commonplace and available. After the war, new civillian and military inspired patterns such as Trebark began to become more commonplace to military inspired patterns. By the 1970s and 80's Mossy Oak and RealTree would become well established and began to dominate the civillian market once ruled by military inspired patterns such as "Duck Hunter". Regardless, this pattern remained popular largely into the 80s and 90s and can still be found in some forms today.
