Early 19th century linen and wool work sampler by Bessy Richards - 1823. This sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns finishing with Bessy's name and the date of Nov 4 1823 running across the bottom edge. The whole piece is then surrounded by a zigzag border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age with a light crease running down the middle. The colours of the ...wool are good with some slight bleeding to the D in the penultimate set of letters. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Bessy first stitched it. Measures 12 3/4" x 10" ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK.
