Nifty vintage vase in the form of an Inverted show globe, display bottle, or specimen jar, made in Japan, circa 1960s - 1970s, bright canary yellow blown glass in rounded oblong capsule form with circular foot, original cork stopper with label, footed capsule shape, approx. 9-3/4" tall by 3-1/2" in diameter, the opening approx. 1-1/4" in diameter, the cork with label reading "tp [?; modernistic monogram], Japan." In excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, or haze.A striking and unu...sual vessel based on a much earlier form originally used to display pharmaceutical, chemical, or botanical samples in pharmacies, doctors' offices, educational settings, and the like, here updated with a vibrant mid-century modern sensibility. Though I was unable to trace the "tp Japan" trademark, other examples are known from this maker (mainly in green and turquoise blue; I was unable to find any others in yellow).
