Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:1594837 | Brand: New Home Sewing Machine Company |
Country/Region of Manufacture: United States | Type of Advertising: hand fan |
Backside promotes: "The Light Running New Home* The Most Popular* Latest Improved and BEST Sewing Machine in the World!"
New Home had its factory in Orange, Massachusetts. This piece also bears the stamp of the merchants: Stubbs & Leighton of Portland, Maine.
Sewing machine depicted on the... backside appears to be the #4 model--with half cabinet and treadle.
Some paper loss on backside (see photos). Appears to be age-related.There is a tear in the upper right (if viewed from the front). It reads like a "crease" on the backside. And could be restored from the front, with a little glue, some color to knock down the white paper showing through.
My best guess is that this was an advertising piece that was meant to be attached to a paddle/handle to create a hand fan. It looks by all accounts to be this sort of functional item. I am not positive that this is the case. But it is my sincere opinion.
Piece measures 7" x 7.25."Very nice details and overall example of Victorian advertising.
