Amazing French gold gilt console table. This is the real deal. It was made in the 18C or 19C (I am unable to tell which). The construction technique is 18C and it is obviously handmade with hand tools, before electricity (you can tell from the uneven surfaces of the backside). Style is Louis XV. Sturdy, solid construction. It is made with mortise and tenon and glue, no nails. It can be reglued to tighten it but it is usable as is. Was purchased at an antiques auction in New Orleans in ...the 1960s and has been in my family for over 50 yrs. Now I'm moving and am selling many things I've had for decades. The shaped top is an old, thick, very heavy, polished slab of golden marble. It is not broken or repaired. There is a 1" divet in the marble top from an accident that happened long before we acquired this console table. The top is magnificent.
The finish is gold gilt (paint) and gold leaf highlights over gesso. I've been a collector of high quality antique furniture all my life. My feeling is this is 18C and it was restored with the 2 shades of gold in the 19C to make it more fashionable. But, frankly, that is an educated guess.
Size: This was made for a large home. It is an impressive 37" tall x 39.5" wide x 19.5" deep.
