UNION OF KEYPORT, NEW JERSEY, ACTIVE IN THE U.S. SANITARY SERVICE DURING THE CIVIL WAR, &WIFE OF HENRY H. SEABROOK (1813-1872), STEAMBOAT
SHIPBUILDER and CO-FOUNDER and PRESIDENT OF
MONMOUTH COUNTY NEW JERSEY’s KEYPORT and
MIDDLETOWN STEAMBOAT COMPANY!"In the early days, Mrs. Therese W. Seabrook stood almost alone
in the W.C.T.U. in her advocacy of ...woman suffrage and it required
ten years of effort to secure a franchise department of which she was
the first superintendent." - History of Woman Suffrage, 1902, v. 4, p. 827Therese Walling Seabrook lived in Keyport on West Front Street
overlooking the Bay. She was the wife of a prominent businessman
in Keyport and an activist for women’s rights. She was a strong
supporter of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union and an
advocate of women’s suffrage. In her mind, as in the minds of
others late in the 19th-century, there was a connection between the
temperance movement and the suffrage movement.  In 1884, suffragists
Phebe Hanaford of Jersey City, Therese Walling Seabrook of Keyport,
and Henry Blackwell of Massachusetts met with the New Jersey
Assembly Judiciary Committee to press for the introduction of a
women’s suffrage resolution in the Assembly. They succeeded in
having the bill introduced, but the Assembly would take o action
on the resolution. [Source: Keyport Historical Society]HERE’S A DOCUMENT SIGNED PAIR BY THERESE SEABROOK AS EXECUTRIX OF HER DEAD HUSBAND’S ESTATE – TWO (2) BANK CHECKS DATED AT MIDDLETOWN POINT, N.
