Item History & Price

The tongs were very nicely crafted from thick carbon steel. The heavy-duty build was designed for tough use. The surfaces display even, natural surface corrosion as shown. They remain exceptionally solid and sturdy with no deep corrosion or weak points. The diagonal file grooves remain clearly visible over much of the length. The pivot point is a heavy steel pin peened on both sides. The jaws move freely and smoothly. The tips appear to be original and show no signs of re-sharpening or re-shaping. They remain very sharp with crisp, clear bevels. The markings were deeply struck and remain fully visible with some lightness towards the front of the "DISCHINGER" from jaw contact/rub during normal use. The jaws remain straight with no bending, twist, or deformation. The handle links remain very solid as well with no breaks, bending, or deformation. The handle was forged from thick steel as well and it has a deep trough design on the top side for a convex, comfortable grip underneath. The tongs measure just over 13-1/2" in overall length in the closed position. The jaws are just over 5-1/2" from outer edge to outer edge with the tips touching. The handle measures 6" across from the outer edge of each loop. This would be an interesting and unique display piece for anyone with a home bar. It would also be a great piece for any brew pub, craft brewery, or sports bar.
A very nice, original example of this unusual piece of pre-prohibition Dayton, Ohio brewery history!
