RARE Antique Art Nouveau Table Lamp - c1890-1900
Acquired in Belgium October 2019
An authentic antique Art Nouveau table lamp c1890, it's a rare piece, first I've seen in wood, it's fine quality & in completely original condition.
The base/stem is quite beautifully carved in Oak, bespoke no doubt, by a craftsman carpenter, see photos - curves & mouldings are complex & classically Art Nouveau in form & shape.The shade too is fine quality, the obscure... glass tulip bulb has a bronze cage surround which has foundry marks - see last photo.
On the whole a fine & elegant table lamp with classic Art Nouveau features, it is substantial & well made, the base is weighted with a lead plate which is inscribed.
When acquired, traces of the original c1900 electrical cable was present, confirming the age of the lamp & that it has not been used for many decades, it has been rewired sympathetically in antique gold cloth covered twisted flex & is now ready for use.
