This is a very nicely dressed Schoenhut girl doll. She has the early markings that the dolls had from 1911 to around 1917-1918 on her back engraved in. Other resources claim these markings were carried out until 1939. These dolls were manufactured by German immigrant Albert Schoenhut. They were considered an all wood perfection art doll. In 1911 his company was awarded a patent for an all wood doll with metal spring joints. ... This doll was designed to be posed anyway you wanted to without falling over. The first hole, called the oblique hole, on the bottom of the doll's foot is there for her to stand in tiptoe position. The back second hole on the foot allowed the doll to stand flat and not tip over. She has a solid wood head with a mohair full wig that does look replaced a long time ago. The reason I think this way is because her head has tiny holes where her original wig was attached with tiny nails or staples, but this wig is an old blonde mohair wig real full but aged in appearance. Her face is painted and eyes have upper lashes but no lower lashes. Mouth is faint with color as well as the area she should have teeth. Nose has the two red dots. Cheeks have blush color. Her necklace looks added at a later date, but is old glass style beads. There are an assorted group of pictures offered for review on how her arms and legs look with the wear of her surface face in places from age. All her joints move and have no damage. She has no noted damage of broken or replaced parts to her original body. She is marked on the back of her back as best can figure out:
SCHOENHUT DOLL PAT JAN 17, 1911 USA & FOREIGN COUNTRIESHer actual paint has good color all over her body and you can see the aging of it among the missing spots on her body. I am not really sure if her face was ever touched up, but it looks pretty close to what see would have had if it was. You can review to determine that for yourself, but I give no guarantee with not knowing her ownership purchase history. Her clothes are wonderful for this kind of doll made like she would have wore and some parts look original to the doll like some of the undergarments. Her shoes are not original and the 50's style that could be ordered from a doll supply house of that era. My educated guess is that may of been when her wig was changed to what she has now due to the vintage style. She has a button on her dress, but I could not find it anywhere in anything book wise. It is not an original button due to the books specify promoting only the one that had the written message inside the back of it to have be an original. It is more than likely a reproduction offered at some time in the past 50 years. She comes with a stand. She is beautiful and in ready condition to add to a collection with only changes you would want to make for yourself.
