Visit My eBay Store: House-O-Surplushttp://stores.ebay.com/House-O-SurplusDescription: unmarked circa 1780 early period Black Basalt creamer, (AKA Cream Jug) with “engine turned” decoration on exterior and glazed interior. Nicely molded acanthus leaf design “applied” strap handle. Sparrow’s beak style spout. Since this piece is unmarked, we are unsure of the exact manufacturer, however we are certain that it is 18th Century.This barrel shaped style of British creamers are rel...atively early and also scarce/rare. Michael Berthound includes only five barrel shaped creamers (5 out of 1116 illustrated examples) in his reference book “A Cabinet Of British Creamers”. All five of those barrel shaped creamers date from between the period 1765 - 1785.Size: 3” tall x 2.5” diameter at belly x 4.25” length handle to spout. Condition Report: Used. Good condition for its age with exception of a single small chip on inside of the foot ring (photographed). It is free of cracks, repairs and excessive signs wear. It shows minimal other signs of use-wear, but due to age may have slight imperfections such as minor scratches, trim wear, and/or slight manufacturing detects.
