17th Century Spanish Noble Woman
Purchasedfrom the estate of Lewis Mahlmann this handmade one-of-a-kind puppet/marionette is incredible in its designand costume and from his personal collection. Lewis was involved in adult oriented puppetry before he became the head puppeteer at Children's Fairyland in Oakland. Mahlmann took many of his stories from opera and I believe this may be a character from Carmen and made... by Lewis, truly one of a kind.
The marionette standsapproximately 2 feet tall and consists of wooden legs with handmade cast hands andface. The lady is mounted on awooden stand and is signed Lewis Mahlmann on the bottom. The dress design is from the 17th century and is indicative of a Spanish Noble Woman. The fur trim is real. The amazing detail involved in the costume shows the addition of a slip and bloomers plus matching jewelry. The lace details are befitting a woman of stature.
In the early part of his career Lewis Mahlmann did adult oriented puppet theater and these are from his personal collection. Mahlmann took many of his stories from opera and this is a character from Carmen.
