CALIFORNIA GOLD QUARTZ CABOCHON NATURAL GOLD QUARTZ from CALIFORNIA

Before this gemstone began it's new life as a cabochon, it was native gold ore extracted from California's Original Sixteen to One Mine. I believe you'll be delighted with the pattern, luster, and abundance of high-purity gold. The top 'show side' (pictured) is domed, the bottom side (pictured) is flat. Uncommon for this type of o...re, the featured stone shows nary a hint of black Arsenopyrite in amongst the dense thicket of gold veins.
As sole proprietor/operator of my Ebay store, I've been selling native gold and platinum products here for roughly ten years. Back in the 80s and 90s, I was a full-time placer-miner. There's just something about hunting for (and working with) the elusive yellow metal known as gold I found captivating, so much so that it became my life's work.

If you don't know much about gold, gold ores/gold quartz, lapidary, gemology, mineralogy, geology, or mining for gold; if you don't care for jewelry at all, just buy and cache this beautiful rock shot full of gleaming precious metal. GQ or 'gold quartz' is, basically, gold ore. When this ore is rich and aesthetic enough, it becomes desirable as jewelry-grade gemstone. For hundreds of years, jewelers have been incorporating it into spectacular, karat-gold, works of art. Almost any kind of rock can be cut and made into cabs, but GQ is a different mineral altogether because it carries the precious cargo, gold. You would not wish to crush this type of stone just to extract the gold from it. That would be akin to crushing gem grade diamond for use as an abrasive. Gem-grade gold quartz is as rare, precious, and beautiful a mineral complex as you will find on the planet. Weight: 12.6 Grains (Troy) - 4.06 Carats Dimensions:10.9 mm (long) X 9.2 mm (wide) x 2.5 mm (thick) If you're unfamiliar with gold quartz, it's essentially gold ore...very high-grade gold ore. When conditions are just right, super-heated, hydro-thermal solutions, rich in silica and other minerals cool. It is then that metallic minerals, like gold, crystallizes inside these quartz veins. This is part of a process known as metallogenesis. Natural weathering from richer portions of these gold veins causes pieces of gold quartz to break off. Nuggets, gold flakes, flour gold, colloidial gold, and placer gold quartz are the result. Dense-enough vein filling which retains the host matrix rock (that is, quartz) and also harbors the precious cargo, gold, can become one of the earth's more highly-prized gemstones. Then, just to liven things up a bit, the mineral characteristics of gold-bearing stone vary from vein to vein resulting in different matrix variations (i.e. color, density, et al). I was a professional placer miner myself and personally have bought stuff with gold painted on it. Some so-called 'natural gold quartz' specimens acquired had tiny chunks of placer gold glued into the vugs of barren rock. If folks want to fake their specimens, then it should be mandatory they advertise their products as simulations or replications. All of my advertised specimens, slabs, cabochons, gold ores et al are authentic and contain naturally-occurring, native gold and/or are composed almost entirely of naturally-occurring gold (i.e. gold nuggets, gold flakes, wire gold specimens). The purity of this gold will vary, but if it's from California, you can count on it being fairly high, from 70% to 90% pure on average. For comparision, a 14K gold wedding band is 58% pure gold.
