Original 1918 lithograph supporting the Third Liberty Loan, a national war bond initiative during the First World War. The poster shows a kneeling scout presenting Columbia (the female personification of the American Republic) with a sword bearing the Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared", linked here to the virtue of thrift and the sale of war bonds (in which the scouts ...were active) as a patriotic / civic act. Artist is Joseph Christian Leyendecker, a celebrated painter and illustrator who designed several other posters supporting the war effort. Dimensions are 20 x 30 inches, excluding excess linen border. Very good condition; Strong colours. Newly linen backed (10 oz cotton duck + 90 lb archival paper) and acid-neutralized.
