WW1 British Royal Engineers Trench Hat
The trench cap is made of a greenish, brown-khaki twill, it has 5 rows of tan stitching around the headband area and 6 rows on the visor.
The hat has two narrow brown leather straps with two buckles making up the chin strap.
The strap is slotted at the ends and is fastened on both sides by original leather buttons.
The buttons are worn but still show signs of the Royal coat-of-arms. Above the buttons on both sid...es are two metal ventilation grommets.
The interior has a 1 1/2" black leather headband sewn into the hat. Above this leather band is a 2" wide band of what looks to be well worn oil cloth.
The brass engineer hat badge measures 1 5/8" wide X 1 3/4" high.
