Description/Interesting Notes: A rare pair of specimens from the Sinbad Valley area in Colorado!!! One specimen hosts numerous nodules of blue azurite in a characteristic sandstone matrix and the other hos...ts a very rich showing of native gold intimately intergrown throughout the same type of sandstone matrix!!! I acquired these pieces at the same time and rather than split these two specimens up, I thought it was best to leave them together since they tell an interesting story as a pair!!! In person one can see finely disseminated native gold on all sides of the native gold specimen!!! The azurite specimen retains an old label from the Colorado School of Mines with M.E. Volin Collection notation (Volin was Chief of Research at Michigan School of Mines in the 1950's) dated 1933 and the native gold specimen retains an old label with J.H. Dewhurst (early 1900's era collector dealer from London who did work in Colorado) notation on reverse, as well as Sinbad Dist. notation!!! The Sinbad Valley was being explored as early as the very late 1890s for gold and copper ores and there are numerous references in early 1900's mining texts to the region!!! Dont miss out on this rare historic material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
