Comes with the original leather case, in great condition. Some wear, but extremely nice and smooth and soft, but thick and sturdy. The spring works great and closes securely. Two leather straps are in unusually nice condition, soft, strong. Please check all photos.
This is a rare item. It was a signaling device (or a flashing device) made for and used by Germany military during World War I. I only found some info on it. From some military collectors forums, this type of device was developed by German signaling troops (w/ Carl Zeiss), and was used to (attach to signal lamp?) observe the signals from the counter lamp. (Another smaller type 4x, was fixed at the lamp - to align the device with the counter signaling lamp to which it was supposed to correspond).
Very interesting piece for binoculars collectors, military or WWI WWII collectors !
Very rare!
Since there is not enough info on how to use it, it is sold as is. I cannot guarantee it will work perfectly because I don't know completely how it works and what to check. Visually, the glass is in great shape, considering it's age, and is free of scratches or fungus. The body overall in pretty good shape, besides there is obvious wear on the edges, but leatherette is in very nice and firm condition. The right eyepiece can be turned/adjusted, the left eyepiece is stiff. Can be bent with ease to find the perfect interpupillary distance between your eyes (see pictures #7, 8). Overall there is some dust, reasonable for it's age (102 years old!).
