Very rare and stunningly beautiful, original ca1900 German Porcelain Regimental Stein commemorating service in the 2nd Company of the 17th Infantry Regiment “Germersheim” – a unit of the Imperial German Army.

This beautiful, ca1900 German Military Regimental Stein measures approx. 9” tall (to the top of the dolphin form pewter thumb lift) and 4 3/8” in diameter at the base. It features a pewter lid with a dolphin form thumb lift and an image of a shield surmounted by a Medieval Knight’s Armor Helmet. Engraved on the shield are the initials “H. D.” - likely the initials of the original infantryman who owned the Stein. The beautiful hand colored, transfer decoration features an image of a shoulder board with the number 17 within a laurel wreath. The wreath is flanked by German Flags and surmounted by a crown. The central image is flanked by an infantry field camp scene and a scene depicting an infantry company planting a flog at the top of a hill. There is a list of the names of the members of Company 2 of the 17th Infantry Regiment flanking the handle of the Stein. The service dates on the Stein read “1898-1900”.
The Stein has a lithophane in the base picturing a man and a woman seated at a table in a tavern.
German / Prussian Regimental Steins of this type were produced in the early 20th century as keepsakes for soldiers who had served in the Imperial Army.
This very rare and very beautiful, early 20th century German / Prussian Regimental Stein is in excellent condition - the glaze and the colors are bright and beautiful and the Stein displays beautifully. There are no chips, cracks, discoloration, damage or repairs of any kind to the porcelain elements. The pewter lid is also very well preserved and the Lithophane very attractive.
